My grandfather, Jacob Bloch, was my hero. From behind the cash register of his five-and-dime department store, Jacob collected stories and bits of wisdom that would bring home to share with his family. His firm belief was that there is wisdom in every single person’s life story.

Although my grandfather passed away while I was still a young boy, his habit for seeking wisdom stuck with me always. And when my wonderful wife, Courtney, and I recently welcomed our son, Jack, into the world, I was stirred to honor my grandfather’s tradition and share his advice with him.
And so I set out to listen to and record life stories and wisdom from opposite ends of the life spectrum. From the Bronx, New York to Crow Nation, Montana I was welcomed by strangers who confirmed my grandfather’s fundamental belief:
We all have stories to tell. It is just a matter of taking the time to listen and share because uncommon wisdom and universal truths are all around us. I hope that this book helps remind and inspire those who read it that we can all find wisdom – from the bookends of life and everywhere in between.
